Don't let the weather ruin your workout.

Activewear so stylish and versatile you'll never let the weather ruin your workout.

Look, sometimes it can be hard enough to drag yourself out of bed for the day (let alone a workout) when the temperature drops. It’s even harder when it’s cold AND raining. It’s much more tempting to cancel that run, or jump in the car rather than walk to wherever you need to be… or just throw in the towel altogether and cuddle in under the covers.

But wet weather shouldn’t mean you have to cancel your workout - or your day. Gone are the daggy anoraks of old: these days there are so many amazing options when it comes to wet weather gear, jackets that are so cool, comfortable, on-trend (and waterproof, obvs) that you’ll actually be checking that weather forecast and praying for rain.

From the everyday to the super fashionable, the lightweight to the heavy-duty, here are our favourites.

The functionality is right there in the name: RAINS' Danish-designed jackets, coats and anoraks are made for wet weather. They’re unisex (hello, his n’hers dressing!) and have a relaxed fit with a drawstring hood and an attached cap. Snap fastening cuffs keep the water out, along with snap fastening down the front and on the pockets.

Lululemon already make awesome activewear so it just makes sense that they'd also make awesome active outerwear! This sleek and sexy coat has a back vent for breathability and is cinchabel at the waist for a more defined silhouette. It has zippered pockets and also has a hidden phone sleeve, along with a cinchable hood and reflective cuffs. Made from their trademark Glyde fabric, it's waterproof, seam-sealed and breathable at the same time, making it pretty much the perfect rainy day companion.

You can always rely on Everlane for great quality wardrobe stables. Zip it up, pop the hood on and you will be good to go. It's long line will keep you dry and there is a hidden drawcord at the waist so you can cinch it in if you want a more structured look.

This jacket will be great on a rainy day but we wouldn't be waiting until then to wear it. Throw it over leggings, jeans or a favourite dress. This one is going to be on high rotation all year round.

Another fantastic, unique design from Gorman, this raincoat is a slightly longer length than the other design, and features a high neckline and a centre front snap button opening. With a full hood and adjustable neck ties, it also has a cool front patch pocket detail.

What we love about this raincoat from Australian brand PAQME is it packs down into the included pouch so its perfect to take with you on those days when the weather can't seem to make up its mind. It’s super lightweight for portability, and has a detachable hood so you can style it up with its belted waist and lapel collar.

The ultimate waterproof jumper, this option from RAINS is unbelievably lightweight and waterproof. Made from the same hardy yet slimline fabric as their short hooded coat, it’s another unisex option that is perfect to throw in a handbag, it has a funnel neck with a drawstring to keep the rain and wind out.

This jacket packs down so small you could practically fit it in a large wallet. It’s waterproof, breathable and seam sealed to keep you warm and dry, whatever the day throws at you. It has an attached adjustable hood, a front zip and a secure-zip back pocket and a reflective logo and bar on the back and sleeves for extra visibility.

Uniqlo make great, affordable outerwear and this pocketable parka is no exception. Windproof and suitable for light rain (ie, not completely weatherproof) it also offers UV protection, so it’s especially good for days when the weather is up and down.

This jacket will help get you out the door on rainy days. It's lightweight and gives you plenty of room to move and of course there are the all essential pockets.

A seriously sleek running companion, this jacket is waterproof, windproof and made from a quick-dry woven fabric. With a zip-through front, it has twin secure side pockets and an adjustable drawcord hem to make sure you're snug and toasty for those wintery morning runs. Importantly, it also has reflective details for increased visibility in low-light conditions.

This might look like an ordinary running jacket but there are plenty of clever hidden details to make your more comfortable and safer. The pockets double as ventilation and when you flip the cuffs up there are reflective details. If you prefer your jackets snug at the bottom, that's covered with a cinchable hem.

This super affordable jacket is a great little option to have on days when it’s warm, but rainy. It’s made of 100% polyester and allows water to slide off the jacket, rather than have it be absorbed. It was apparently tested against 60L of water over an hour, so while it might be cheap and cheerful, it’s still going to do the job and then some.

At the other end of the price scale, this jacket is expensive, but it’s absolutely jam-packed with features. It’s crafted from breathable, waterproof, seam-sealed FUTURELIGHT material and is not only waterproof but it’s 100% windproof with an attached, fully adjustable hood. It also has a laminated storm flap with snap closure for any times you find yourself caught out in a real downpour.

This fabulous trench-coat style design comes in bright and colourful yellow or smart and classy black and is belted at the waist to streamline your silhouette. (The belt is removable if you’d prefer a looser fit) It has a drawstring hood, adjustable snap button cuffs and large pockets with snap buttons at the waist.

Another option from RAINS - who call themselves the rainwear "nerds", just FYI - this is an awesome option if you’re looking for a traditional belted raincoat in a slightly different style with a faux leather finish. With a drawstring hood, in-built cap, and press-stud side pockets, it’s waterproof, stylish and functional.

This jacket will cover you for pretty much every situation. It’s a 3-in-1 with a water-resistant outer shell and an inner fleece which means it’s both water and windproof. The detachable inner microfleece jacket can be worn on its own or with the outer jacket, and comes with a packaway hood you can simply roll up and packway. It also has tonnes of pockets to stash away literally anything you might need. With adjustable cuffs, hem and hood, you can shape it to suit you anyway you like, whether youw ant something snug or something a bit more slouchy, this jacket will do the job.

The most important thing is whether you want something waterproof or simply weatherproof. Waterproof means you could walk under Niagara Falls and basically brush yourself off and go have brunch, while weatherproof simply means it’ll withstand a bit of a drizzle, even a light downpour, but for anything more than that, you’ll need to pop up a brolly.

Secondly, you should look for breathability, because while you want to keep the rain out, you also want to make sure you’re letting perspiration out at the same time. Anything with mesh outlets is a good bet.

Finally, you want something with sealed seams, as this will also keep any rogue droplets or strong breezes from seeping in when you are trying to stay toasty warm.
